Bohemian Dreams

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, interior designer Nicole Johnson’s gypmadic aesthetic is inspiration for us as we style our new office. When blog Life-Love-Laughter profiled Nicole’s very own home as well as her adorable son Mac, we picked out a few of our favorite pictures to share.

Noted in the LA Times for it’s impeccable blend of “Old and New”, the Granada Hotel and Bistro is our new favorite weekend getaway. The luxury boutique hotel, located on the central coast of California in San Luis Obispo is just a few hours north of LA, but feels like a different world. Social Gypsy is so grateful for the opportunity to spearhead every design initiative for this brand and we strongly recommend putting it on your summer hit list.

If you go, make sure to spend some time unwinding in the rooftop lounge…

Every Red Carpet is full of the hottest celebrities featuring designers’ newest looks, but who could ask for a better Red Carpet showing than last night’s CFDA Awards’ White and Black Carpet. The most predominant figures of the fashion world came together to celebrate American fashion, and they did it in style! Sneak a peak at our favorite looks from last night…

The LA Times calls it “boho goddess festival wear.” Daily Candy describes the aesthetic as a “marriage of haute and bohemian.” What are they all raving about? Our client Jennifer Nicholson’s new Venice boutique Pearl Drop.

After a nearly five year hiatus from fashion, Jennifer bursts back onto the scene, not missing a beat. Filled with racks upon racks of gorgeous GoldDust dresses, Gregory Parkinson caftans, and Nicholson’s very own unique pieces, Pearl Drop is a boho gem that you will never want to leave.

Last night, Jessie Ware made her second Los Angeles appearance at the El Ray, and we’re positive it won’t be her last. Ware’s powerful pipes pair beautifully with her bluesy, sultry edge making her the perfect combination of fellow Brit divas, Adele and Joss Stone.

And what is it about those British pop stars that are so adorably self deprecating?! In between songs, Ware delighted us with her hilarious LA starstruck moments- “I saw f-ing Ryan Gosling!” she squealed.

Jessie Ware, we are positively smitten with you and can’t wait to bare witness to your wildest moments in the upcoming year!

After taking Pamela Salzman’s Thanksgiving cooking class last month, we’re officially in love. She taught us how to whip up deceptively simple dishes like salad and sweet potatoes in a way that made our taste buds soar (But Seriously the BEST sweet potatoes we’ve ever had…sorry mom). We love Salzman’s approach. Her recipes are health conscious and eco friendly, but still approachable, accessible and appealing to a wide variety of palates.

There’s a rumour going around that Salzman is starting a new holiday series! Go to pamelasalzman.com for class info and some amazing recipe ideas!

It’s the age-old, standby question that snakes its way around tables throughout America: “What are you thankful for?”…Our Answer: Women. Women who believe in their talents. Women who aren’t afraid to pursue their passions. Women who stay true to themselves and in doing so, affect change.

Here are 3 She-Roes who are inspiring us this month….

1. Jill Renee Goldman

From Africa to Brentwood, social activist, Jill Renee Goldman, won’t let anyone stop her from helping people in need. The Go Campaign has already provided assistance to nearly 30 thousand needy orphans and after last week’s successful gala, we can’t wait to watch Jill’s journey for justice continue through 2013.

2. Iris Apfel

What’s not to love about Iris Apfel? She’s frank, unabashedly speaks to her stuffed animals as if they were her girlfriends, and wears more necklaces around her neck than we have in our jewelry box. In her latest interview with Advanced Style’s Ari Seth Cohen, Apfel’s candor inspires us to grab our craziest getup and wear it with pride.

3. Grace Coddington

The spunky, fiery-haired Vogue editor may have rose to worldwide fame after the debut of The September Issue, but Ms. Coddington has been a chief influencer of the fasion industry for nearly 5 decades and she’s spilling all of the gory (we mean, Oxblood) details in her upcoming memoir, Grace.  Coddington possesses that rare, pure obsession with fashion (NOT celebrities) that we can get behind and we can’t wait to read her story. Bonus: She’s also featured in this month’s issue of I-D magainze (with fellow She-roe, Lena Dunham)

We Love These Sari Dresses

November 13, 2012

We’re dying over these antique sari dresses. They’re culturally-inspired, colorful, and bohemian, making them the perfect dress for any Gyps-ified fashionista. And the best part of all? For the next week (until Monday), 10% of each purchase will be donated to NYC’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund! It’s basically a win-win…

The sudden onset of gloomy  weather makes us want to spend this weekend cozied up with a  chai tea latte and these 3 new books…which one(s) are you getting?

1. Gypset Travel

Julia Chapin  (who authored our personal bible, Gypset) comes Gypset Travel, which captures the luxuriously bohemian life of the gypset traveller.

2. Petrochemical

Veteran photographer, Richard Misrach’s latest edition captures 150 miles of the land that lines the Mississippi River- an area rampant with chemical production.

3. W The First 40 Years

The history of this legendary fashion and lifestyle magazine is chronicled in over 300 pages of glossy, editorial images accompanied by tart tid-bits from gossips columnists Suzy and Countess Louise J. Esterhazy.
